Chinese think tanks see intense studies

CHINESE think tanks will study intensely the new normal economic growth, deepening reforms and the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, a report by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences said yesterday.
“Chinese think tanks urgently need to make an immediate impression in applying theories to practice,” according to the 2014 Report on the Chinese Think Tanks compiled by the SASS.
The new normal refers to China adapting to slower economic growth, restructuring the economy faster and achieving higher-quality growth.
At the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum held in Beijing in November, President Xi Jinping said the “new normal” will become a key word to describe China’s economy in future.
At December’s Central Economic Work Conference, a crucial meeting to set the tone for this year’s economic policies, the authorities elaborated reforms in nine areas, including capital market and market access for private banks under the new normal, which made reform a hot topic for the think tanks to study, the report said.
The Chinese think tanks will also study the government’s blueprint for the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), revival of the ancient Silk Road and the rule of law, according to the report.
The Development Research Center of the State Council was ranked the most influential think tank for economic study, followed by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Academy of Macro-economic Research under the National Development and Reform Commission.
