Confidence drops
CHINESE bankcard holders’ confidence dipped in April after lower manufacturing and service PMI figures last month hurt consumer sentiment.
The Bankcard Consumption Confidence Index shed 0.46 points from a month ago to 80.62 points, a poll by China UnionPay showed yesterday.
Expenditure at restaurants and entertainment venues dropped 8.73 percent from a month ago while jewelry spending slumped 16.37 percent.
Spending on transport, including airplane and rail tickets, sank 22.83 percent in April from a month earlier.
The average expenditure at supermarket chains rose 0.83 percent from a month ago due to higher prices of food.
