Courier sector booms

CHINA’S courier firms will deliver around 50 billion parcels annually by 2020 and generate business revenue of 800 billion yuan (US$126 billion), according to a guideline issued by the State Council yesterday.
The courier industry will create some 200,000 jobs in the country. It will support online shopping whose transactions are set to be 10 trillion yuan annually by 2020.
Besides being encouraged to list, the courier firms are also urged to acquire and restructure to create groups that can compete globally, the guideline said.
China’s courier market is expected to deliver more than 20 billion parcels this year, a 50 percent jump annually.
China has overtaken the US as the world’s biggest courier market by the amount of parcels delivered this year.
