Credit cards services draw most complaints from locals
The China Banking Regulatory Commission’s Shanghai Office said it has received over a thousand cases of complaint against the local financial institutions during the first half of the year, where credit cards received the most complaints in spite of a decreasing proportion of the total.
The top three complaints were related to credit card, deposit and loan, and bancasurance, which comprised 27, 16 and 14 percent respectively of the total 1,037 cases received during the first six months, said the local banking regulatory in a statement today.
The proportion of complaints against fees and credit cards dropped by 3.12 percentage points, while the share of those against deposit and loan added 2.11 percentage points compared to the end of last year.
During the same period, foreign banks accounted for 4.6 percent of the total, up 0.62 percentage point, due to complaints over the wealth management products of a few foreigners, said the statement.
The top five Chinese banks – Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China and Bank of Communications – accounted for 40 percent of the complaints due to their vast outlets and network, said the regulator.
The regulator also said local banks have prevented 534 telecommunications frauds in the first half, which could cause loss of 30 million yuan (US$4.9 million) to the consumers.
