DBS Bank funds training program for disadvantaged
DBS Bank China, a subsidiary of Singapore-based DBS Bank, said today that it will provide grants to a charity program that aims to improve the life and competence of disadvantage people in China.
In the first phase of the social enterprise program launched by the lender, more than 2,300 underprivileged people in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Chengdu will receive vocational training for two years. The bank said it has signed agreements with four social enterprises to award grants, provide training courses and help the trainees find jobs.
DBS Bank China said the companies will provide baby-nursing courses for migrant women, graphic design courses for those with hearing loss, art classes for the mentally retarded, and training for the blind.
