EU told to seek growth in China
EUROPEAN Union members should look to China for economic growth, Italian Consul General in Shanghai Stefano Beltrame said yesterday.
Beginning this month, Italy took presidency of the Council of the European Union and Beltrame met with Shanghai mission heads of European countries yesterday.
“Economic growth is at the center of our program of presidency,” Beltrame said. “China’s economic expansion of around 7 percent is positive for us, and this is the place to go if we want to improve our growth.”
According to official documents, the Italian presidency will work to support investment in key areas such as environmental protection, infrastructure and digital services. It will also work on issues of sustainable development, including the creation of positive synergies with Milan World Expo 2015.
The presidency will also support bilateral trade negotiations and investment with strategic partners and emerging markets.
