E-commerce law aims to protect IPR

CHINA’S planned e-commerce law will protect intellectual property rights as the government is determined to crack down on sales of fake goods online, an official said yesterday.
Other key initiatives the government plans this year include improving supervision, drafting relevant laws and regulations to ensure stable market order, said Shen Danyang, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce.
“E-commerce brought about new issues due to the lack of relevant laws and regulations, and this has drawn attention from the government”, Shen said.
The ministry will draft tighter regulations to better protect intellectual property rights and create a fair e-commerce market environment, Shen said when asked about the ministry’s latest efforts on curbing online sales of fake goods.
Shen said the ministry is working together with the financial and economic committee of the National People’s Congress to improve regulations in the e-commerce sector.
The ministry will set up a cross-region and cross-department mechanism to strengthen supervision of the sector by working together.
The ministry will also help Chinese exporters to leverage overseas warehouses and logistics facilities to better reach overseas buyers via foreign online shopping platforms as the government encourages cross-border trade.
