Expo forex services

THREE currency exchange companies will start operations in Shanghai to meet rising demand for foreign exchange in Shanghai, especially during the World Expo 2010.

They can offer currency exchange service to Chinese and expatriates, who enjoy an annual exchange quota of US$50,000 or equivalent and a daily exchange limit of US$5,000 or equivalent, said the Shanghai headquarters of the People's Bank of China yesterday.

There are 2,228 banking outlets in the city offering forex services. Currency exchange companies have 15 outlets.

More than 70 million visitors are expected to come to the city during the 184-day Expo event starting on May 1.

The PBOC works together with the State Administration of Foreign Exchange to make currency exchange more convenient for individuals.

Elsewhere in the city, the Bank of Communications yesterday allied with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the Bank of China and the Bank of Shanghai to ensure a sufficient supply of cash in the city during the Expo.
