FTZ set to grow fourfold

A proposal to expand by fourfold the Shanghai pilot free trade zone to cover more areas in Pudong New Area and set up three new zones has been submitted to the National People’s Congress Standing Committee.

The expanded China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone will include the Lujiazui financial area, Jinqiao development area and Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, said Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, when explaining the bill to lawmakers.

The expansion is set to increase the area of the Shanghai zone to 120.27 square kilometers from 28.78 square kilometers now.

The Shanghai FTZ now consists of Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Waigaoqiao Free Trade Logistics Park, Yangshan Free Trade Port Area and Pudong Airport Comprehensive Free Trade Zone.
