Firms more positive about recruitment in H2

WITH the economy showing signs of recovery, local firms are becoming more confident about recruiting, according to a recent poll.

In the survey of 1,055 human resource managers on China’s mainland, 53 percent said they are planning to boost employee numbers in the second half, up from 45 percent who thought so in the first quarter.

“The results suggest the employment outlook is getting better,” said Cherol Cheuk, joint general manager of Hudson Shanghai. The property and construction sector has been the most active due to strong industrial demand, according to the poll by United Kingdom-based Hudson.

Nearly 85 percent of respondents in the sector said they planned to recruit in the second half of the year.

Demand for warehouses and hotels is also rising, as firms seek to relocate out of downtown areas due to rising costs, Cheuk said.

In the banking and financial services sector, nearly three quarters of those polled said they would be looking to recruit new staff over the coming six months.
