Han wants to ensure sustainable growth
Shanghai will accelerate industrial restructuring, further boost consumption, and maintain stable housing prices in the second half of this year to ensure the economy grows in a sustainable manner, Party Secretary Han Zheng said yesterday.
“We need to be aware of the risks while remaining confident to find the best solution and create new opportunities for growth,” Han told Party cadres at the 9th plenary meeting of the 10th Shanghai Committee of the Communist Party of China, which ended yesterday.
“We should further enhance our core competitiveness ... and a stable economy in Shanghai is in the best interest of the nation.”
He added that the city will continue to deepen reforms in the pilot free trade zone in the following months while building a global science and innovation center.
“We are determined to make good use of the opportunities and prevent risks,” Han said.
The property sector presents risks but Han said Shanghai will continue to combat real estate speculation and avoid volatile housing prices.
“Shanghai’s housing prices are already very high ... a stable and healthy housing market is one priority of the government,” Han said.
