Hippo Animation to list on OTC exchange

SHANGHAI-BASED Hippo Animation Design Inc was approved to list on Shanghai’s over-the-counter equity exchange in December, aiming at expansion of its computer-generated (CG) animation business and domestic animation ecosystem, the firm said on Saturday.
Hippo’s land on capital market is the latest example for domestic animation maker to expand its business on screen, recalling Enlight Media Co’s earlier acquisition over producing team of “Monkey King: The Hero is Back”, an animation film that hit a box record of 1 billion yuan in July.
The funds raised by Hippo will help the 12-year-old company to produce and promote its eight CG-animation films in three years, as well as its content design and development for Virtual Reality gaming devices, according to Xu Ke, Hippo’s president, also a former investment manager at Fosun International Ltd.
The eight domestic animation movies will touch a wide range of topics including science fictions like “Water Planet” and “Galaxy Battle Storm”, historical biography of Chinese character Zhao Yun and kids cartoon like “Jungle Masters 2”.
All the movies will be released in both Chinese and English version simultaneously in ties with Edward Frumkes, the former president at International Theatrical Distribution and Marketing of Warner Brothers, Xu Ke said.
