History and richness of lasting brands

FOREIGNERS and young people are welcome to learn about time-honored Chinese brands and take part in events related to the brands at a fair in Shanghai as part of efforts to sustain the growth of these brands.

Children are welcome and for the first time they will be able to participate in events such as magic play, DIY toys and a crawling game tailored for them at the China Time-Honored Brand & Famous Brand Expo, according to the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, the organizer.

The commission also plans to launch a photo contest by inviting foreigners to shoot photographs of time-honored Chinese brands. The contest, conducted by the School of Design at East China Normal University and Melbourne’s RMIT University, is named “Old and New — A Taste of Shanghai.”

“We hope to explore further into the cultural value of our brands,” said Shao Yuling, secretary-general at the Shanghai China Time-Honored Brands Association.

“With the help of the fair and these events, we expect that more people, especially the younger generation and foreigners, who have little knowledge about these brands, will be fond of them gradually.”

The four-day fair, which starts today at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in the Pudong New Area, will feature various on-site events including testing products for free, a qipao show, performances of tea art and display of cultural heritage.
