Shanghai shares ended slightly higher today, led by bankers after an agreement was signed between Chinese mainland and Taiwan to boost financial cooperation.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which tracks the nation's bigger stock bourse, edged up 0.24 percent to 3,282.89. Gainers outnumbered losing shares by 489 to 369.
The Shenzhen Component Index, which covers the smaller market in Shenzhen, inched up 0.3 percent to 1,185.17 points.
China Construction Bank Corp gained 1.8 percent to 6.25 yuan. China Citic Bank Corp surged 3.1 percent to 6.9 yuan. Shanghai Pudong Development Bank added 0.1 percent to 24.04 yuan.
Gemdale Corporation was up 1.2 percent to 16.62 yuan. Poly Real Estate Group gained 0.5 percent to 27.04 yuan. Shanghai-based Shimao inched up 1 percent to 19.32 yuan.
Bucking the upward trend, some consumer shares fell. Qingdao Haier Co retreated 2.1 percent to 21.61 yuan. Shanghai Bailian Group eased 2 percent to 16.27 yuan.
