Listed companies paid 21% more in dividends last year

THE cash dividends paid out by listed companies was estimated to have hit 606 billion yuan (US$96 billion) last year, representing a 21 percent year-on-year increase, according to figures released by the China Securities and Regulatory Commission today.

A total of 1,613 listed companies said they planned to have cash dividends last year, 67 percent of all listed companies and 6.4 percent higher than in 2010, according to the official data based on the yearly report of the 2,403 companies listed in Shenzhen and Shanghai.

Meanwhile, listed joint venture brokerages continued to suffer losses in April, said financial data provider Wind yesterday.

Joint venture asset managers Credit Suisse Founder Securities and Zhong De Securities lost 6.2 million yuan and 12 million yuan respectively last month, Wind said.

The 19 listed brokerages earned 1.8 billion yuan in April, said Wind, citing the companies' monthly reports. Seven companies, including Citic Securities and Industrial Securities, posted profit increases compared to March, according to the data.
