HONG Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd yesterday said it has received approval from the Securities and Futures Commission to extend the trading hours of its securities and derivatives markets in two phases as planned.

From March 7, stock trading in Hong Kong will begin at 9:30am and end at 4pm, with a 90-minute lunch break between noon and 1:30pm.

From March 5, 2012, the lunch break will be shortened by an additional 30 minutes, resulting in a one-hour break between noon and 1pm and an extra half hour for trading.

Stock trading in Hong Kong begins at 10am and ends at 4pm now, with a two-hour lunch break between 12:30pm and 2:30pm.

Trading in its derivatives markets and the auction sessions of the securities and derivatives markets will also start earlier from March 7.
