M&A activity jumps to annual high in August
THE scale of China's merger and acquisition market has grown for a second consecutive month in August with a total of 282 deals announced, according to a report by a leading Chinese research firm.
Although the number of announced M&A deals jumped 6.4 percent from July, the total investment involved in these deals dropped 28.83 percent from a month ago to 73.3 billion yuan (US$11.47 billion), China Venture said in a report today.
A total of 207 cases among the already announced deals have been completed, which was the highest amount so far this year and 176 deals revealed that they had a combined investment of nearly 55.8 billion yuan, a 10.6 percent rise from a month ago.
Among the 207 cases, 189 deals took place between Chinese firms, 12 outside China and six were inked by foreign investors to the world's second largest economy, the report added.
The energy and mines sector had 38 M&A cases, the most among all sectors, followed by 23 cases in IT and 22 cases in the manufacturing sector, the report said.
