DOMESTIC companies were involved in 565 mergers worth a combined 117.18 billion yuan (US$17.15 billion) from 2005 to 2009, according to an industry report.

A record 212 deals occurred in 2009, five times that of 2005, and the value of mergers hit a record high in 2008 with 64.9 billion yuan, backed by the China's stimulus policies, Zero2IPO Research Center said in a report.

A total of 132 mergers valued at 26 billion yuan were in real estate and 85 deals worth 16.23 billion yuan were in energy and mining.

Only 15 deals of 35.47 billion yuan involved overseas firms and the acquisitions were done in the United States, Australia, Israel, Japan and South Africa, the report said.
