MNCs to be honored for helping Shanghai’s innovation hub goal

SHANGHAI is looking to honor multinational companies which lead in adopting innovative practices to help the city evolve into a world-class innovative center.

The city yesterday launched an award program to select 40 winners in the fields of innovative policies, local cooperation, talent development, and corporate social responsibilities, according to the organizers.

The program is organized by Shanghai Daily and Eastday.com and sponsored by the Shanghai Information Office and the Shanghai Commission of Commerce.

All multinational companies whose innovative practices are in line with the city’s economic and social development plans may apply.

The applications will be reviewed by an expert panel from the Center for Think-Tank Research and Management in Shanghai, which comprises professors from major universities in the city.

The award finalists will be based on their evaluations and on the results of an online public voting system via mobile platforms.

The winners will be announced in late October at a forum. They will take part in discussions with government officials, corporate executives and academics on how best to advance innovative trends in the city.

The MNCs have given a positive response to the program, and the organizers said they expect more than 100 MNCs from the manufacturing and services industries to vie for the award.

The three-month program, “Innovation and Development: Multinational Companies in Shanghai,” is part of the city’s goals to transform into a global center for new thinking and creative approaches to problem-solving.
