Market dips in lukewarm morning

SHANGHAI'S key stock index ended slightly lower in the morning session, with weak performance in commodity producers.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.39 percent, or 12.44 points, to close at 3,140.97 points. Turnover stood at 52.7 billion yuan (US$7.75 billion). Losers outnumbered gainers 414 to 417 and 33 stocks remained unchanged.

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks the smaller domestic market, was up 0.25 percent to close at 1,168.87 points.

Jiangxi Copper Co was down 1.6 percent to 37.95 yuan. Aluminum Corp of China lost 1 percent to 14.11 yuan. Shandong Gold Mining Co retreated 2.2 percent to 79.41 yuan. Zijin Mining Group Co, the country's largest gold producer, slid 1.7 percent to 9.49 yuan.

Sluggish heavyweights also dragged down the market. PetroChina, the country's largest oil producer, withdrew 0.7 percent to 13.22 yuan. Sinopec edged down 0.2 percent to 13.33 yuan.

Coal miners were among the losers. China Shenhua Energy Co withdrew 1.7 percent to 32.65 yuan. Yanzhou Coal Mining Co fell 0.7 percent to 22.93 yuan. China Coal Energy Co was off 0.9 percent to 13.16 yuan.
