Metro eyes specialty store in FTZ
GERMANY’S Metro AG plans to open an imported goods specialty store in the Shanghai free trade zone by the end of this year.
The retailer, which didn’t elaborate on the FTZ store yesterday, also hopes that e-commerce trading at Metro Cash & Carry, its supermarket division, will contribute up to 10 percent of its overall income in China within one or two years.
“We’ll shift the focus of our expansion from opening new stores to renovating existing ones to better suit e-commerce shoppers,” said Jereon de Groot, president of Metro Cash & Carry China.
Metro Cash & Cary yesterday unveiled the latest format of its online shopping site that allows shoppers to choose a nearby branch for easier delivery.
