Mixed trade data

CHINA’S exports continued to strengthen in July, but imports dropped, painting a mixed picture of China’s trade, data from the General Administration of Customs showed last week.

Exports jumped 14.5 percent from a year earlier to US$212.8 billion in July, faster than the previous month’s pace of 7.2 percent. Imports, however, fell 1.6 percent to US$165.5 billion, compared with an increase of 5.5 percent in June. Analysts said the data indicated stronger external demand, but the domestic recovery may require further targeted policies to support. The trade surplus settled at US$47.3 billion last month.
