More ag futures

CHINA will develop more agricultural futures contracts to help farmers and develop the country's western regions, a top securities official said. The China Securities and Regulatory Commission will look into developing more futures contracts for products such as egg, rapeseed and potato, to benefit and meet demand from farmers, Jiang Yang, its vice chairman, told a forum in Chengdu, Sichuan Province yesterday. He added the move is part of efforts to support development of China's western areas. There are already 13 agricultural futures products such as sugar and cotton being traded in the country. But the demand for agricultural commodities futures is still robust, especially in the west, Jiang said.
