More time to bank after work

SHANGHAI Rural Commercial Bank plans to open more branches in the city to let customers do their banking needs beyond normal working hours, its chairman said at the weekend.

The bank plans to open dozens of branches which will operate between 5pm and 10pm from May, Chairman Hu Pingxi told reporters at the annual session of the National People's Congress in Beijing.

These branches would help working people who may not have the time to go to the bank during normal hours.

But Hu didn't elaborate on the sites of the new branches.

The bank opened such a branch in Shanghai's Xuhui District in 2007 which allows customers to conduct normal banking transactions ranging from deposits and credit cards to small-sum mortgage applications. The branch now operates from 4pm to 7:30pm on workdays and 1pm to 5pm on weekends.
