New 100 yuan note

THE People’s Bank of China said yesterday that it plans to introduce a new 100 yuan (US$16.10) note on November 12.

The note will be largely unchanged in terms of appearance, but will feature several enhanced anti-counterfeiting technologies and will be easier for machines to read, the central bank said.

The only significant design difference will be that the large “100” in the center of the note will be printed in gold, with the numbers changing to green when the note is tilted.

The old version will remain in circulation indefinitely.
