New head to helm HSBC China

HSBC Bank (China) Co yesterday said it has appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer Helen Wong as its president and CEO, and her appointment will be effective upon obtaining regulatory approval.

Wong will succeed Richard Yorke, HSBC China CEO since 2005, the company said yesterday, adding that his next move will be announced in due course.

Wong will remain an executive director of HSBC China.

"China is a key focus of our emerging markets strategy and the growth engine of the global economy," said Peter Wong, HSBC Asia-Pacific CEO.

"Helen's extensive banking experience and knowledge of China will continue to build on our position in China," Peter Wong said.

Wong has more than 25 years of commercial and investment banking experience in China and the Asia-Pacific region. She joined the HSBC Group in 1992 and was deputy CEO for HSBC China in September last year.
