Wong will succeed Richard Yorke, HSBC China CEO since 2005, the company said yesterday, adding that his next move will be announced in due course.
Wong will remain an executive director of HSBC China.
"China is a key focus of our emerging markets strategy and the growth engine of the global economy," said Peter Wong, HSBC Asia-Pacific CEO.
"Helen's extensive banking experience and knowledge of China will continue to build on our position in China," Peter Wong said.
