New start for Taiwan bank
THE Bank of Taiwan, the island's largest bank, yesterday opened its first branch in Shanghai as it expands business on the Chinese mainland.
Bank chairwoman Susan Chang said yesterday BOT will use Shanghai as a beachhead to tap into other cities on the Chinese mainland.
In its first year, the Shanghai branch will offer foreign currency services that cater to the foreign trade needs of Taiwan businesses in Shanghai.
The branch may start offering yuan-related services next year after it obtains approval from financial regulators.
