No falsified data in good trade results, says ministry

China’s surprisingly good trade results in January were due to recovering global demand, government policies to stabilize trade and seasonal factors — not falsified data, Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang said yesterday.

“The January trade figures were reasonable and logical based on the structure of export goods and export markets that covered a wide variety,” he said.

Products, from textiles, shoes, toys, bags to plastic and porcelain goods, helped exports grow by double digits last month, while their destinations extended from traditional trading partners like the US and the European Union to many new emerging markets, Shen said.

China’s exports jumped 10.6 percent from a year earlier in January while imports rose 10 percent, up from 4.3 percent and 8.3 percent a month earlier.
