PBOC deputy governor replaces SAFE head

CHINA has “removed” the head of its foreign exchange agency, the government said yesterday.

Yi Gang has been replaced as the head of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange by Pan Gongsheng, a deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China, according to a statement on the central government’s website.

No reason was given for the moves.

Yi, who had been head of SAFE since 2009, holds another post as deputy governor of the central bank, on whose website he was still listed yesterday.

Pan has been a central bank deputy governor since 2012, and was previously a vice president of the Agricultural Bank of China.
