PBOC to continue prudent monetary policy

THE People’s Bank of China yesterday said it will continue the prudent monetary policy and stress more on striking a balance between tight and loose.

The PBOC will maintain its “policy continuity and stability” and create a financial environment conducive to the Chinese economy’s restructuring and upgrading, the central bank said in its monetary policy report for the fourth quarter released yesterday.

The PBOC will use several monetary policy tools to manage liquidity in the market and facilitate stability, it noted.

“The central bank will guide more credit resources to flow to the rural economy, small and micro-firms to lend more support to the real economy,” it added.

Latest data showed the Consumer Price Index, a main gauge of inflation, fell to the lowest in more than five years, fueling hopes of easier monetary policies.
