MORE than 98 percent of Chinese netizens bought products or services in 2010, which cost them about US$2,557 on average, Visa said yesterday in a report.

Comparatively, respondents from six key e-commerce markets spent an average of US$2,086 online on travel, share trading and electrical appliances, according to Visa's survey on the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

The survey found that respondents across the six markets spent the most on travel, paying an average of US$550 over the last 12 months for airline tickets, accommodation and travel agent services. Other major categories included share trading (average of US$320), electrical appliances and white goods (US$166), banking and financial services (US$92) and computer hardware (US$75).
