Rich Shanghai people found less satisfied
Shanghai had the third-largest population of wealthy people among Chinese mainland cities and provinces at the end of May, but they were generally less happy than their national counterparts, Taikang Life Insurance and Hurun said in a co-authored report yesterday.
Shanghai has 181,000 individuals with net assets of over 10 million yuan (US$1.58 million), trailing Beijing and Guangdong Province which both recorded more than 200,000 wealthy individuals, the report said.
But the wealthy population in Shanghai grew the quickest at 13.3 percent, and their average annual disposable income was 2.73 million yuan, 180,000 yuan above the national level.
However, Shanghai’s wealthy individuals are less satisfied with their wealth, job, safety, family life and caring for their parents than their national counterparts, the report found from a survey of 1,129 high net worth individuals in China.
It found the rich people in Shanghai are most concerned about life for their parents and themselves as they age because the city is the most aging society out of the 31 provinces and municipalities where the survey was conducted.
Official data showed Shanghai has 4.14 million people above 60 years old, or 28.8 percent of the total population, nearly doubled the national level.
The rich people in Shanghai are also more concerned about health care and quality of services than their national counterparts, the survey found. But they far less worried about being separated from their children and friends when staying at an elder-care facility.
