Road cleared for high-tech park’s move to FTZ
THE Pudong New Area announced yesterday that it was separating the management of Zhangjiang High-Tech Park and Zhangjiang Town, paving the way for the park to be included into Shanghai’s free trade zone.
The government of Zhangjiang Town will hand over its investment promotion functions to the management committee of the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, while the park committee will transfer social management affairs to the town government.
After the handover, the park will be in charge of the area’s economic affairs while the town government will focus on public administration.
“The idea is to reform the government’s role, and reduce administrative intervention in the economy as the Zhangjiang park will soon be a part of Shanghai free trade zone,” said Shen Xiaoming, Party secretary of the Pudong New Area.
The park was founded in 1992 as a national-level park designated for the development of new and high technology.
