SMEs鈥 weaker showing

CHINA’S small and medium-sized enterprises performed more weakly in June as manufacturing activities softened amid a cooling economy, a survey report said yesterday.
China’s Small and Medium Enterprise Confidence Index, a monthly measure of small business sentiment, fell to 57.3 in June from 58.2 in May, posting a third straight month of decline, Standard Chartered Bank said in a report after surveying nearly 600 SMEs nationwide.
A reading of 50 divides optimism from pessimism.
All three sub-indexes fell. The current performance sub-index, tracking production and new orders, fell to 55.8 from 56.5 in May. The credit conditions sub-index, which reflects banks’ attitude toward lending to SMEs, fell to 55.2 from 56.9. The business expectations sub-index fell to 60.8 from 61.2.
