Shanghai Composite up 0.18%, led by energy shares

SHANGHAI stocks edged up in the morning session with energy shares leading the gain after China called for efforts to revolutionize energy production and consumption habits.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.18 percent to 2,074.53 points. Turnover was 39.3 billion yuan (US$6.3 billion) by the noon break.

President Xi Jinping said last Friday that China should reduce wasteful consumption, push for energy conservation and boost alternative energy supply, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Xi made the remarks while presiding over a meeting of the Central Leading Group on Financial and Economic Affairs.

CNNC Sufa Technology Industry Co advanced 2.72 percent to 20 yuan. Dongfang Electric Co added 2.33 percent to 11.88 yuan. Jiangsu Shentong Valve Co climbed 4.11 percent to 15.95 yuan.

Property developers were weak. China Vanke Co dropped 2.61 percent to 8.21 yuan. China Merchants Property Development Co sank 3.75 percent to 10.78 yuan.
