Shanghai market little changed in morning
SHANGHAI'S key stock index remained flat in the morning session amid lukewarm investor sentiment as 2009 nears end.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.45 percent, or 14.27 points, to close at 3,174.51 points. Turnover stood at 62.8 billion yuan (US$9.24 billion). Losers outnumbered 665 to 186. Seventeen companies remained unchanged.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks the smaller domestic market, was down 0.64 percent to close at 1,178.57 points.
Property developers remained weak on concerns over more government measures to curb speculation in the overheated real estate market. Shanghai-based Shimao Co retreated 3 percent to 15.65 yuan. Poly Real Estate Group withdrew 2.6 percent to 21.61 yuan. Gemdale Corp eased 2.3 percent to 13.23 yuan.
Automakers were among the losers. Dongfeng Automobile Co was off 2.3 percent to 6.84 yuan. SAIC Motor Corp slid 1.5 percent to 26.40 yuan and Beiqi Foton Motor Co plunged 1.7 percent to 18.71 yuan.
Brokerages bucked the downward trend. CITIC Securities Co advanced 1.7 percent to 30.36 yuan. Haitong Securities Co edged up 0.4 percent to 18.45 yuan.
CHINA CNR, one of the country's two big train makers, added only 3.06 percent to close at 5.73 yuan at midday break on its first trading day, setting for the smallest gain in debut performance this year.
