Shanghai stocks rise on nuclear boost
SHANGHAI stocks rose yesterday on nuclear power stocks following government efforts to restart nuclear projects.
The Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.27 percent to 2,425.86 points. Dongfang Electric rose 7.98 percent to 16.50 yuan (US$2.70), and Shanghai Electric gained 5.35 percent to 6.50 yuan.
Guotai Junan Securities said technological difficulties had halted the resumption of nuclear projects but the National Energy Administration said that previous hurdles had been successfully overcome.
The brokerage expected China to start new nuclear projects this year, adding that the country’s nuclear programs are likely to breathe new life into the industry.
