Shanxi aims to draw investments from MNCs
SHANXI Province aims to attract multinational companies to invest in 122 projects worth 220.7 billion yuan (US$35.6 billion).
The projects, unveiled in Shanghai yesterday, are in new materials, food processing, new energy, equipment machinery and tourism.
Representatives from 188 companies including foreign giants like Siemens, Wal-Mart, GE and HSBC were invited to attend a conference on the projects.
The province is actively restructuring its economy in line with the Chinese government promoting a green energy strategy, said Wang Yixin, vice governor of the province long known for its coal industry.
“The coal industry remains important for us,” Wang said. “We try to upgrade the coal production, making it cleaner, while developing new pillar industries for our province.”
The province has also held two similar conferences in Guangzhou and Wuhan, during which 105 project deals worth 165 billion yuan were signed.
