Shares post slight increase
SHANGHAI shares yesterday edged up in spite of economic data showing growth in the services sector eased in April.
The Shanghai Composite Index added 0.22 percent to close at 2,997.84 points.
The gauge failed to end above the key psychological level of 3,000 points, but energy shares gave the index a boost in the last 30 minutes of trading. Henan Dayou Energy Co surged 9.26 percent to 6.96 yuan (US$1.07).
Chinese airlines were lifted yesterday by a central government plan to open up the low-altitude air space. China Eastern Airlines Co and China Southern Airlines Co both jumped more than 3 percent.
A private survey showed yesterday that service activity in China grew in April, but the gains were slightly less robust than in March.
