Shares slip on cautious investors
SHANGHAI stocks yesterday fell for a third consecutive day as investors turned cautious ahead of a slew of economic data to be released next week.
The Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.78 percent to 2,984.96 points, narrowing from a decline of as much as 1.6 percent. For the week, the index lost 0.82 percent, the first weekly loss in a month.
China is set to release various economic data including inflation, industrial output, retail sales and the first-quarter economic growth rate next week.
CITIC Securities, China’s biggest listed brokerage, fell 2.3 percent to 16.94 yuan (US$2.62). Dongxing Securities shed 3.1 percent to 25.05 yuan.
China Shipbuilding Industry Co lost 2.1 percent to 6.88 yuan, and CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering (Group) Co declined 3.2 percent to 28.13 yuan.
