Shipbuilding insurance grows
SHANGHAI has attracted more than half of China's shipbuilding insurance business but the growth in premiums from life insurance was almost flat, the city's insurance regulator said yesterday.
The premium income from shipbuilding insurance totaled 1.44 billion yuan in the first quarter, up 10.4 percent from last year, it said. The premiums accounted for 55.5 percent of the income nationwide.
The city's ability to attract insurance business for shipbuilding is due to the city's robust shipping industry and preferential tax policies.
Meanwhile, premium income from life insurance grew a mere 0.56 percent in the first four months from the same period last year.
