Stocks post gains as battered sectors recover
SHANGHAI'S stock market rose for the first time in the morning session today thanks to gains among financials, while media plays jumped to secure the rebound.
The Shanghai Composite Index added 0.28 percent to 2,401.85. Turnover edged up to 28.4 billion yuan (US$4.47 billion) in early trading.
Media counters were the biggest gainers this morning. Chinese Universe Publishing and Media Co Ltd climbed 2.06 percent to 22.32 yuan. Beijing Gehua CATV Network Co Ltd advanced 1.6 percent to 10.18 yuan.
Financials, one of the worst performers yesterday, recovered from previous losses.
Industrial & Commercial Bank of China, the country's largest lender, jumped 1.18 percent to 4.29 yuan.
