Support urged for female entrepreneurs
BRITISH Secretary to the Treasury Harriet Baldwin urged further support for female entrepreneurs yesterday in Shanghai as she gave her backing to a business women leadership project in China.
Under the Vow Project, five young Chinese female entrepreneurs from Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces operating in consumer, hospitality and agriculture industries are guaranteed training stints with companies such as Alibaba Group and UK’s Virgin Group.
“Women leaders only account for 10 percent of the global business so far,” Baldwin said. “We are obligated to mentor those females and maximize economic potential created by them. The ceiling is as high as the ambition.”
The half-year project starting from June is led by the British Consulate-General Shanghai and the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai, with total investment of 600,000 yuan (US$94,137).
