Weak debutants spark measures
CHINA'S securities regulator is likely to unveil new listing rules, or may again halt applications for IPOs as more new shares fell below the offering prices on their debut, a Chinese investment company said.
The China Securities Regulatory Commission may halt initial public offering applications again as it bids to adjust policies governing requirements for IPOs, China International Capital Corp said yesterday in a weekly research note.
By last Friday, 15 new listings out of 21 stocks that debuted this month have fallen below their IPO prices. This week will see the debut of 14 new shares, the most so far this year.
Last Tuesday saw five new listings tumble below their IPO prices, with Changshu Fengfan Power Equipment Co having the dubious distinction of being the worst debutant when its shares shed 14.46 percent from their IPO price.
China has halted approval for IPO applications seven times in the past 20 years.
