3D printing tech exits labs to real world

THE 3D printing technology has moved out of research laboratories into the real world in the past several years and is widely used in the automotive, aerospace and medical industries in China.

China’s 3D printing industry is expected to hit a revenue of 10 billion yuan (US$1.5 billion) by 2020, five times from that of 2013.

The TCT+ Personalize Asia 2016, one of the biggest professional 3D printing exhibitions in China, has attracted more than 110 exhibitors, including Hewlett-Packard, Stratasys, Materialise, Beijing Tiertime Technology Co and XYZ Printing.

China is one of the major industry growth engines in the region with a huge potential in the automotive, aerospace, medical and education markets for US-based Stratasys, the market leader of 3D printers, Lucy Zhai, newly appointed general manager of Stratasys China, said at the three-day exhibition which opened yesterday in Shanghai.
