4G Plus goes live
CHINA Telecom yesterday announced the official launch of its new 4G Plus service in Shanghai, though the service is unlikely to be available in the city’s downtown until the end of the year.
The company said the service will offer connection speeds of up to 300 megabytes per second, though it will be accessible only via compatible smartphones.
Currently, 4G Plus can be accessed at China Telecom outlets and “in some high buildings” in Lujiazui, but by the end of the year this will be extended to the entire area within the Inner Ring Road and Pudong Airport, the company said.
China Telecom last year spent 40 billion yuan (US$6.4 billion) on the construction of 6,000 4G base stations across Shanghai. It said it plans to build a further 1,500 such facilities by the end of the year.
