AT&S Group expands PCB business in China
AT&S Group, Europe’s largest PCB (printed circuit board) maker, expands into industrial and the automotive industry while testing the waters in the wearable device sector, Chief Executive Andreas Gerstenmayer said in Shanghai yesterday.
Austria-based AT&S, which has invested 560 million euros (US$767 million) to build a plant in Shanghai, is also constructing a new factory in southwest China’s Chongqing with an initial investment of US$447 million.
PCB is a key component used in the electronics industry for mobile phones, automotive electronic equipment, medical devices and microprocessors.
“We are ideally positioned to benefit from the trends that require high-tech applications such as wearable devices, the increasing number of automotive electronics and the Internet of Things,” said Gerstenmayer.
AT&S also aims to expand into the new integrated circuit-related business through cooperation with Intel Corp and the new plant in Chongqing.
The capacity of its Shanghai plant is about 780,000 square meters of PCB annually, good for 150 million phones.
