Alibaba enters Brazil
ALIBABA.COM has partnered a Brazilian firm to tap the booming small and medium-sized enterprise sector in the South American country.
"Internet penetration and Brazil's blossoming emerging-market economy make it ripe to market its small and medium companies on Alibaba's platform," said Timothy Leung, Alibaba's sales director.
Alibaba has already attracted more than 150,000 free users in Brazil and the partnership with Ludatrade Tecnologia Ltda will enable Brazilian companies to display their products and contact information on the English Website of Alibaba, which could reach clients in 240 countries and regions.
Alibaba expects to store information of 60 to 80 percent of Brazil's exporters in its statistic base. It normally charges global suppliers a fee of US$3,000 but Brazilian businesses have to pay 50 percent more due to costs of translating products and catalogues into English.
