Alibaba to tap 3C data to fight counterfeit

ALIBABA Group will collaborate with the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CAA) to better access its database of certified products to ensure no fakes are sold on the e-commerce giant’s websites.

A data-sharing mechanism will be launched under a framework collaboration deal signed by the two parties yesterday to allow Alibaba to detect and remove products that lack “China Compulsory Certification” information and punish vendors who do not have proper quality assurance.

Alibaba will also report to CAA products that garner a large number of consumer complaints and data compiled from its transactions.

Wang Daning, vice director of CAA, said having Alibaba as a collaborator to detect and fight counterfeit is an important part for its “Internet Plus” scheme.

“This collaboration also helps us enforce market regulations, and we’ll continue to introduce new technologies to help track and monitor unlicensed vendors and products,” he said.

Of the 1.2 billion products sold on Alibaba’s Taobao and Tmall sites, around 11 million products sold on the latter need 3C authentication.
