Apple CEO ‘optimistic’ about China Mobile deal
Apple is “incredibly optimistic” about the company’s cooperation with China Mobile, CEO Tim Cook said yesterday in Beijing, two days ahead of the debut of iPhones supporting the telco’s 4G network.
“I really see today as a beginning not the end. Our work just begins,” said Cook, who believes cooperation between Apple and China Mobile will bring Apple customers “exceptional experiences.” Cook flew to Beijing earlier this week.
Pre-orders of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C since Christmas have been very encouraging, said China Mobile’s Chairman Xi Guohua, whose company serves 760 million customers.
China Mobile and Apple will officially launch iPhones for the telco’s TD-LTE 4G network tomorrow, marking a long-awaited cooperation between the world’s No. 1 mobile carrier and a top global technology giant.
The iPhones will be sold in Apple Stores and some China Mobile’s outlets.
Apple hopes the deal with China Mobile, which has more than 700 million users nationwide, will result in least 20 million iPhones sold in the Chinese mainland.
Before this deal, Apple had cooperated with China Unicom and China Telecom to sell iPhones on China’s mainland.
